Posters
Our poster printing service supports research by Vision Core Grant Investigators at the UCSF Department of Ophthalmology. A 44” x 66” poster (a common size for many conferences), takes about two hours to troubleshoot and print and I am only here part-time, so it is best to let me know you will be needing a poster at least 3 weeks before a large conference like ARVO (April/May) or Neuroscience (Oct/Nov) or 1 week in advance during other times of the year. On a good day, I can print 5 posters. If you come to me less than a week before a large conference, I cannot guarantee I will have time to print your poster.
Requirements:
- SCHEDULE: Contact Suling to schedule a poster printing time. Please tell me the PI you are working with, conference name and date.
- FILE DELIVERY: If your file is small enough, email it to me by the morning of your scheduled apppointment. You can also send it to me via Dropbox or meet me to give it to me on USB drive.
- CONTACT INFO: Please tell the best way to reach you, in case any questions come up while I'm working on your print.
- FILE TYPE: I can take Powerpoint or Adobe Illustrator files. It can be helpful to also give it to me as PDF. But it's best to get the original file.
- ACKNOWEDGEMENTS: This office and poster printing facility is funded by the NIH Vision Core Grant. Please be sure to acknowledge the core grant as well as Research to Prevent Blindness on your posters with this or similar wording: This work was made possible in part, by NIH-NEI EY002162 - Core Grant for Vision Research and by the Research to Prevent Blindness Unrestricted Grant.
- PRINT SIZE: Tell me the final print size you need. Powerpoint limits the dimensions of your document, but when I go to print I can scale it proportionally up or down, so set it up to be proportional to what you need. Our poster printer paper is 44" wide. I can scale your poster to fill the paper 44" horizontally or rotate and scale it to fill 44" vertically. I can also set it to be any size in between but there will be white space on the paper that you will need to trim off manually. I don't have a cutter to trim posters.
- IMAGE QUALITY and LAYOUT: For POWERPOINT USERS: As a general rule, use standard fonts, high resolution jpegs, and avoid using special effects or image adjustments in Powerpoint. If you need to adjust your images, do this in Photoshop first and then import them into Powerpoint. Special effects (such as shadows, transparencies and gradients) tend to cause printing problems. If you really want to use certain effects, let me know beforehand so I can troubleshoot and find a workaround if necessary. For more detailed info, download poster printing guidelines linked on this page to ensure your poster and images are setup to print well. Poster templates, UCSF and RPB logos can also be downloaded below.
- PROOFREAD: Please understand that once I have printed a poster, I cannot reprint the poster unless there was a problem caused by software or the printer.
If you have any questions please either email or call me. Thank you.

Templates for poster printing
All templates can be downloaded, either as a Powerpoint or Illustrator document. Click on the link below the image. The proportions of the PowerPoint templates are the maximum slide size allowed in Powerpoint. When I print your poster I am able to scale it to a different size.
